I dreamt I worked in a store for my mother(whom I heavily detest) selling books and boardgames. She hired some additional staff, and made me go clean up dog poop that was in the middle of a busy highway. After that, I walked to a gas station to buy some lottery tickets. After winning the big jackpot on one, I go back to the store. One of the new hires, a midget, is upset he didn't win the lottery. I hide my ticket in a boardgame box on a high shelf. He suspects I won, and tells me he wants the ticket. I say no, and he brandishes a knife at me. This pisses me off so I kick him across the room. He goes to rat me out to mother, who doesn't believe me when I tell her about the knife.
Dreams often serve as a complex tapestry of emotions, desires, and subconscious thoughts. Let’s explore the symbols and scenarios present in your dream:
Working for Your Mother: Starting your dream in a work environment created by your mother can symbolize unresolved feelings or perceived control issues from childhood or ongoing family dynamics. Since you mention detesting your mother, this scenario may reflect a sense of obligation or powerlessness related to her influence in your life.
Selling Books and Boardgames: Books often symbolize knowledge, learning, or new ideas, while boardgames can represent strategy or life’s social interactions. Perhaps, you feel you are constantly being tested or playing a role that involves careful maneuvering, especially around family or personal growth subjects.
Cleaning Dog Poop on a Highway: This unpleasant task might symbolize dealing with a mess in a high-stress or dangerous situation. It could imply feelings of being undervalued, particularly by someone in a position of authority (like your mother), being put into challenging or demeaning situations, or being forced to navigate through perilous life circumstances.
Buying and Winning the Lottery: The act of buying lottery tickets suggests hope or a yearning for a significant change or escape from current life circumstances. Winning the jackpot indicates a breakthrough or wish fulfillment, reflecting your desires for luck, change, or autonomy to break away from oppressive situations.
Hiding the Lottery Ticket: Placing your winnings in a boardgame box on a high shelf implies safeguarding your success where others cannot easily reach it. This reflects your protective instincts over your accomplishments and perhaps the fear of these being taken away, especially given the contentious relationship with your mother and the threatening coworker.
Conflict with the New Hire: The confrontation with the aggressive new employee who desires your winnings could symbolize perceived threats or competition in achieving your dreams. The aspect of the new hire being a midget may highlight feelings of being underestimated by adversaries or dismissing them due to initial appearances.
Mother’s Lack of Belief: When your mother doesn’t believe your story about the knife, it could reflect a history of feeling misunderstood or unsupported by authority figures, especially in critical times.
Your dream appears to be an amalgamation of feelings of entrapment, lack of control, and a desire for liberation from oppressive influences in your life, symbolized by your mother’s authority and the chaotic situation (cleaning the highway). The act of winning the lottery signifies hope and the potential for significant positive change, while the conflict with the new hire suggests fears of having your accomplishments invalidated or taken. Your actions, such as confronting the threat and seeking to hide your winnings, reveal a strong desire to assert control over your destiny and protect your successes from perceived threats. The dream highlights internal conflicts and the need for validation and recognition, especially from those you feel should support you unconditionally.
